Our frequently asked questions

We are pleased to address any practical questions you may have about our products, processes, approach, and values. Below is our list of frequently asked questions.

Where are FRESH ATTITUDE lettuces grown?

In season, our conventional baby lettuces are harvested directly on our farms. During summer, we grow and harvest locally in Quebec and British Columbia. During winter, in order to continue offering you our products, our lettuces come mainly from our farm located in Florida, which supplies our packaging centres in Quebec and Florida. When our farms are unable to produce the lettuces we need (at the beginning and end of the season), our young shoots are then provided from long-standing partner suppliers, which are certified and approved according to the criteria of our quality assurance program.

Are FRESH ATTITUDE salads and lettuces organic?

Apart from our range of certified organic products, our FRESH ATTITUDE mesclun and ready-to-eat salads are not considered organic. However, over the years we have succeeded in developing a unique expertise in sustainable agriculture, allowing us to make use of natural alternatives and minimize as much as possible the use of herbicides and pesticides. In this field, we are committed and constantly striving to innovate.

Do FRESH ATTITUDE lettuces contain GMOs?

No, our lettuces do not contain any GMOs. Our products retain all their natural qualities and properties, without modifications.

Can FRESH ATTITUDE containers be recycled?

Yes! Our containers are 100% recyclable and we strongly encourage you to promote the circular economy. What's more, although our current plastic films are not recyclable, our R&D department is working hard to develop an alternative that will be.

Should FRESH ATTITUDE ready-to-eat salads and lettuces be washed?

As soon as our fresh lettuces are harvested and brought to our packaging centre, they are pre-rinsed, submerged in two different water basins, and rinsed again. There is no need to wash your FRESH ATTITUDE salads at home, unless it is recommended to do so on the container. However, keeping in mind that this is a field-harvested product, handle the lettuces with care and remove any shoots that may have been damaged during the packaging process.

What is the shelf life of FRESH ATTITUDE fresh salads and prewashed lettuces?

The freshness of our salads is guaranteed until the date indicated on the container, and may even go beyond that date. However, once our products are shipped out, factors beyond our control may prematurely degrade lettuce, which could affect its freshness. For blends containing cut mature romaine lettuce, it is preferable to consume these products within 48 hours once the container has been opened. For mesclun-type young lettuces, we recommend consuming them within 3 to 5 days after opening the container. At all times, store your salads in the refrigerator in order to maintain optimum freshness and flavour.

Are FRESH ATTITUDE products allergen-free?

If allergens are present, they are mentioned in the “Contains” section displayed on our products’ packaging. If there is no mention, the product contains no allergens. Although some of our ready-to-eat kits contain nuts or other allergens, we apply strict measures and rigorous cleaning procedures in order to control the spread of allergens to other products.

Why does romaine lettuce sometimes turn a reddish tint?

Once cut, romaine lettuce reacts naturally with oxygen and may take a “rusty” hue. This is a natural reaction that poses no health risks. During the packaging process, we reduce the oxygen level in our containers so that it remains low until the containers are opened. In order to preserve its green appearance, we recommend consuming cut romaine lettuce within a short period of time.

I found an insect in my FRESH ATTITUDE lettuce, what can I do?

Insects are not toxic, and we grow our lettuces in vast, natural environments. In fact, some insects are even great allies against smaller insects that are detrimental to our crops. However, despite the numerous preventive measures that we set up in the field (protective nets, pre-harvesting inspections, etc.), we agree that your plate is no place for them! All our lettuces are scanned through high-tech equipment that detects and discards the debris and insects that may have been collected during harvesting. Foreign bodies are removed during the pre-rinsing stage, and the chances that an insect ends up in a finished product remain extremely slim. Nevertheless, some are harder to detect than others.

I found dirt on my FRESH ATTITUDE lettuce, is that normal?

All our products are carefully washed and dried before packaging, and are ready to eat. However, since our lettuces grow in fields, it is possible, but rarely so, that wet soil adheres to the leaves due to heavy rains. Despite the cleaning and rinsing process, a small amount of soil may remain on the lettuce. If this happens, we suggest you simply rinse your salad and dry it properly before consumption.
